Honey House develops and leads dynamic workshops in poetry, memoir, and professional writing. Instructor Cesca Janece Waterfield earned an M.A. in Literature and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing at McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana, where she taught Composition and Creative Writing to First-year college writers. She taught both Composition and Creative Writing for two years at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee while completing coursework for a PhD. She has also taught English and Literature at a private secondary school in Norfolk, Virginia, and in her spare time, has taught writing workshops at high schools and at treatment facilities.

Cesca says,

One afternoon a woman I’ll call Sharon illustrated a central truth of my life.

I was leading a writing workshop at a residential treatment center. Minutes earlier, Sharon had announced she couldn’t write because it was part of a world that looked down on her.

But as she read a bold and rollicking poem by Lucille Clifton, Sharon brought to life a confident persona unhampered by insecurity and free of the addiction from which she was fighting to save herself. Good writing transformed Sharon’s self-doubt, and an hour later, she sat before two pages of her own handwriting–part of her story.

The truth is, writing transforms us, and can elevate existence above the malaise and minutiae comprising its hours.
